Chiropractic Care
At Solvang Chiropractic Center, we use a variety of gentle, effective techniques to restore spinal alignment, mobility, and overall health. Every method is tailored to your body’s needs, drawing from years of training, hands-on expertise, and a philosophy of natural healing.
What To Expect
1
Your First Visit
Your first visit is all about getting to know you. We’ll talk through your health goals and do a thorough exam to identify what’s causing your discomfort. If you’re in pain, Dr. Noah will do everything possible to give you relief right away so you leave feeling cared for and supported.
2
Resolving Issues
Chronic or more stubborn problems often take a few visits to fully resolve, sometimes 4–6 adjustments. Each visit builds on the last, retraining your spine and nervous system for healthier motion. We may also suggest simple stretches, posture tips, or strengthening exercises to help your body hold adjustments and heal faster.
3
Preventive Care
Even after your issue feels better, regular “tune-ups” keep your spine moving the way it should. Monthly adjustments can help prevent pain before it starts, like changing the oil in your car. Many patients notice they move easier, feel more energy, and stay healthier when they keep their spine in balance with preventative care.
01
Chiropractic Adjustment
The heart of chiropractic care is the adjustment. Once the vertebral area is identified, an adjustment is performed using either a precise thrust or slow, steady pressure. This restores motion, reduces nerve interference, and helps your spine work as it should.
Improved Spinal Motion
-
A body in motion stays in motion. Adjustments restore movement where your spine has stiffened, reducing aches and tension.
Reduced Nerve Interference
-
When spinal joints are compressed, they can irritate nearby nerves. Adjustments gently open those joints, giving your nervous system the chance to heal and function at its best.
02
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses targeted acoustic waves to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. During each session, a handheld device delivers controlled pulses directly to the affected area which helps relieve pain and restore mobility.
Here's How It Promotes Healing
-
Interrupting pain signals: Shockwaves influence nerve activity, reducing pain perception.
-
Increasing blood flow: Improved circulation brings essential nutrients and oxygen to the injured tissue.
-
Boosting collagen production: Supports the repair and regeneration of tendons, ligaments, and muscles.
-
Breaking down calcifications: Helps dissolve calcium deposits that can limit movement and cause discomfort.
Conditions Commonly Treated with Shockwave Therapy
-
Plantar fasciitis – heel and arch pain relief
-
Achilles tendinopathy – reduced inflammation and faster tendon recovery
-
Tennis and golfer’s elbow – alleviates chronic forearm and elbow pain
-
Rotator cuff injuries – promotes shoulder healing and flexibility
-
Jumper’s knee (Patellar tendinopathy) – relieves pain and enhances joint function
-
Hamstring injuries – accelerates muscle repair
-
Shin splints (Medial tibial stress syndrome) – eases inflammation and tension
-
Trigger points – releases tight, painful muscle knots
-
Bone injuries – supports bone regeneration and recovery
03
Traction Table Therapy
Traction therapy is a gentle, non-surgical treatment designed to relieve pressure on the spine and surrounding nerves.
It’s often recommended for patients experiencing:
-
Herniated or bulging discs – helps reduce disc pressure and discomfort
-
Sciatica – alleviates nerve pain radiating down the leg
-
Pinched nerves (radiculopathy) – eases irritation caused by compressed nerves
-
Spinal stenosis – creates more space within the spinal canal to reduce pain
-
Degenerative disc disease – promotes spinal alignment and comfort
Using a specialized traction table, the spine is gently stretched and decompressed in a controlled, therapeutic way. This process can:
-
Encourage disc retraction – helping discs return to their natural position
-
Improve disc health – by increasing nutrient and fluid exchange
-
Ease nerve compression – reducing pain, tingling, and numbness
-
Relax muscles – relieving tension and promoting flexibility

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to keep coming once I start chiropractic care?
Not at all. Some people feel better after a single visit, while others with more chronic issues may need 4–6 adjustments. Dr. Noah Swanson often encourages monthly maintenance visits to keep your spine moving well and to help prevent pain from returning. Think of it like this: “A body in motion stays in motion.” Chiropractic care helps maintain that healthy motion before discomfort sets in.
How do patients usually feel after an adjustment?
Most patients report a sense of ease, relief, and improved well-being. If adjustments didn’t feel good, people wouldn’t come back! Multiple visits help retrain your spine and keep you moving comfortably.
What’s the difference between chiropractic and massage therapy?
Chiropractic focuses on aligning the spine and joints to restore healthy movement and nervous system function, while massage therapy works with the muscles and soft tissues to reduce tension and improve circulation. Together, they complement each other beautifully for whole-body wellness.
Is it safe to crack my neck or back on my own?
It’s not recommended. Self-cracking can put unnecessary pressure on your joints and may cause more harm than good. A chiropractor is trained to adjust the spine safely—knowing the exact spot, direction, and pressure needed to create positive results without risking damage.
Are chiropractic adjustments just for adults?
Not at all! Newborns, infants, children, seniors, and even people who have had back surgery can benefit from gentle adjustments. Every adjustment is tailored to your size, age, and specific needs.
Can chiropractic care help with more than back pain?
Yes! While many people come in for back or neck pain, chiropractic care can also support headaches, posture issues, pregnancy-related discomfort, sports injuries, and overall wellness. It’s about keeping your body aligned so you can feel and function at your best.

Education
Chiropractors go through one of the most rigorous training programs in healthcare. Before beginning a five-year chiropractic doctorate, students must first complete a bachelor’s degree with a strong foundation in the human sciences.
Because chiropractors don’t prescribe medication or perform surgery, their education focuses deeply on anatomy, physiology, natural healing, and advanced spinal adjustment techniques. In fact, D.C Doctor of Chiropractic has the same school hours as M.D Medical Doctor. D.C. Speciality is on spinal and neurological health.
The first two years emphasize science, cadaver dissection, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology, and biochemistry. The later years focus on chiropractic-specific studies such as diagnosis, X-ray imaging, adjustment methods, rehabilitation, nutrition, and chiropractic philosophy.
The Chiropractic Residency is extensive, hands-on, and requires hundreds of proctored treatments until the D.C. Doctor of Chiropractic is proficient at identifying and correcting spinal and or neurological compromise. D.C Students are required to take four national boards including practical and written exams covering all cumulative sciences and techniques.
Once a D.C Student has passed all four national boards the state exam is next in order to acquire licensing.
This blend of science, clinical practice, and holistic philosophy makes chiropractors uniquely equipped to support the body’s natural ability to heal.
Chiropractic for All Ages
Children’s bodies go through a lot as they grow. Birth itself can be physically stressful, followed by tumbles while learning to walk, slips, falls, and everyday bumps. Because kids are so resilient, these issues are often brushed off as “growing pains” or just a phase. But small misalignments early on can shape how their bodies develop: “As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”
Parents often find that chiropractic care can support children through common challenges like colic, ear infections, restless sleep, bedwetting, scoliosis, or recurring “growing pains.”
One of the biggest concerns parents have is whether adjustments will be too forceful for little ones. Rest assured, chiropractic techniques are always adapted to a child’s size and needs. An infant’s spine doesn’t have the muscle tension adults carry, which means adjustments are incredibly gentle.
In fact, newborn adjustments use no more pressure than you’d apply to check if a tomato is ripe. Many parents share that they notice almost immediate improvements in their child’s comfort, sleep, and overall well-being.
